Jill Bezyak PhD, CRC, Rocky Mountain ADA Center. The purpose of this project was to research and create a community of practice (COP) for human resources (HR) professionals to aid in employment of individuals with disabilities. Focus groups were conducted with HR professionals in Colorado and results were used to create a survey distributed through HR professional associations in the Rocky Mountain region. Results of the 190 survey responses identified topics that participants wanted to know more about in the area of employment and accommodations for individuals with disabilities and how they wanted to receive the information. Based on these findings and the high interest in an ongoing COP, Bezyak’s team is building a COP website for HR professionals that can improve knowledge and practice in hiring individuals with disabilities.
