Join us as we mark the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! We invite you to delve into the rich tapestry of the independent living movement and its profound impact on our community. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the barriers that exist and the resiliency required to overcome them. Through this event, the Center for Independent Living aims to foster empathy, promote inclusivity, and ignite conversations that lead to meaningful change. Whether you're a community member, advocate, educator, or ally, "Empowering Independence" offers something for everyone. Agenda: 1:00-1:30PM Networking and Interactive Introspective "Empowering Independence" reflects more than just an event; it's an immersive experience designed to educate and inspire, beginning with workshops that will increase your understanding of disability. 1:30-2:00 PM History of CIL and our Founder Beverly Chapman was a force to be reckoned with in the Independent Living movement. Listeners are in for a treat learning about CIL's founder. 2:00-3:00 PM Panel Discussion Our panelists will discuss actions you can take to break down barriers towards disability inclusion. Panel includes Florida State Representative, Rita Harris, District 44.
