National ADA Symposium Participation and Outcomes: Great Plains ADA Center Survey Analysis

Smith, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA , Great Plains ADA Center. This preliminary program evaluation addressed the question “How are National ADA Symposium participants using the knowledge they acquired from the sessions in their work? A survey was sent to 763 participants, with 238 (31%) responding. Overall ratings of speakers were high; 82% said the symposium improved their skills and 88.6% said it improved their knowledge. While participants intended to use new skills and knowledge in their work back in their communities, barriers to implementing changes included lack of commitment from employers, money and time. The National ADA Symposium is an effective mechanism for increasing skills and knowledge of disability issues that can be used in the community and workplace. Survey results have also been used to add topics and sessions in future and to increase networking time.
