Location:

Description:

Addiction Recovery and the ADA

Substance use is a topic that has received a lot of press in the last couple of years.  In this session, we will look at substance use and alcoholism through an ADA lens. Are people who use alcohol covered under the ADA? How about people who use substances illegally? What does ADA coverage mean? We will define who is and isn’t a person with a disability in this context with supporting scenarios.

ADA Updates in 2018

The principle, all people including people with disabilities have the right to participate, seems simple enough. However, even though the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed 28 years ago, the implementation of the ADA has been spotty.  We will discuss recent settlement agreements from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) and resources from the US Access Board and the New England ADA Center.
