Architectural Accessibility Workshops – ADA and Multi-family Housing

Event Date/Time:

Thursday, April 7th, 2016
8:30 AM EDT - 4:30 PM EDT

Location:

Merrill Auditorium Rehearsal Hall 20 Myrtle Street, Portland, ME

Description:

ADA Standards for Accessible Design     8:30 am - noon

The Standards apply to a variety of buildings from city halls and state office buildings to hospitals, restaurants and hotels. We'll address key issues in new construction, alterations, the 20% disproportionality formula, and more.

Multi-Family Housing     1 pm  - 4:30 pm

Multi-family housing with four or more units must comply with the federal Fair Housing Act (if new construction) and the Maine Human Rights Act (if new construction or  substantial alteration.) If federal funding is involved Section 504 of the Rehab Act kicks in. If state or local funds are involved the ADA kicks in. Confused? You are not alone. We will attempt to untangle the confusion about what applies when and  review some design differences.
