The Miami-Dade County Commission On Disability Issues is celebrating the 24th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 from 9 - 11 a.m., Thursday, July 24. The event, hosted by the Miami Dade County Commission on Disabilities Issues (CODI), will include a panel discussion emphasizing the significance of this unprecedented legislation that prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities. We will also discuss how the ADA has given individuals with disabilities the opportunities to forge ahead. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, County School Board Member Raquel Regalado, County School Superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, Xavier Gonzalez, Executive Director of eMerge Americas, Matt Haggman, Program Director/Miami of the Knight Foundation, Ernie Martinez, Chairman CODI, Dr. Jose Vicente, President, MDC Wolfson Campus, and Harry Horgan, President of Shake A Leg Miami will participate in this event which will be held at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus' Chapman Center, Room 3210, 300 N.E. Second Avenue. This year's theme, "technology, education, communication, and community are the keys for people with disabilities to achieve independence and freedom in their lives," will serve as the platform on the importance of education in improving the sense of freedom for persons with disabilities.
