Description:

Self-Evaluation Part I

Per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) people with disabilities have the right to participate in all programs, services, and activities, but often face barriers to participation. Through the self-evaluation and transition process, municipalities have an opportunity to uncover and fix barriers. This training will walk through these processes.

The evaluation of programs and facilities, buildings, and spaces is one of the five Administrative Requirements that the government (state, municipal, and local) must put into place to make sure that people with disabilities can participate (e.g., public transportation, town meetings, school, library).

This training is a two-part training and is offered as a part of the ADA Coalition of Connecticut’s ADA Coordinator certification series for CT ADA Coordinators. Credits can be applied toward the national certificate.

Course Objectives

  • Learn about the ADA and who has obligations.
  • Walk through what to look for when conducting an ADA Self-Evaluation as the basis of an ADA Transition Plan.
  • Understand program access, what it means, and possible ways to provide access and inclusion.
