Description:
As natural disasters increase in scale, frequency, and complexity, individuals with disabilities and governmental agencies need to be prepared to handle emergency situations. In this session, we will discuss what steps individuals need to take to be prepared, such as establishing a support network and what to keep in a go bag and an emergency supply kit. We will also review the basic principles found in the ADA for inclusive emergency preparedness and discuss its application to access and functional needs planning in the areas of evacuation, transportation, communication, and emergency sheltering. Finally, we will provide helpful tips, checklists, toolkits, and a number of other resources that are available to everyone in order to meet the goal of effective inclusive emergency planning.
