Invitation to Submit Artwork to Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). July 26, 2020 is the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). In recognition of this historic civil rights legislation, the City of Portland Disability Advisory Committee (PDAC) and Disability Rights Maine are seeking submissions of artwork from artists of all ages celebrating the tremendous impact of the ADA. Starting in July 2020, we will share submitted artwork on the City of Portland and Disability Rights Maine webpages, Facebook pages, and other social media. We hope you can help us commemorate 30 years of progress in inclusion and accessibility! PDAC and Disability Rights Maine are seeking artwork responsive to any or all of the three below questions: 1) How has the ADA positively impacted your life? 2) What do you think the next 30 years will look like for individuals with disabilities? 3) Thank you to the ADA for: Please submit your artwork for consideration via email by June 30, 2020 to alevine@portlandmaine.gov in one of the following formats: - A video of 60 seconds or less in length preferably in a .mp4 or .mov format; - A photograph; and/or - A photograph of original artwork such as of a drawing or painting When emailing your artwork, please provide the following information: - The title of your piece, if applicable; - Your preferred name (or you may submit the artwork anonymously); and - (Optional) Your age and the town in which you reside. Please contact Mandy Levine at alevine@portlandmaine.gov with any interpretation or accommodation requests. ************************** By submitting work for consideration by the City of Portland and/or Disability Rights Maine, the submitting artist (“Artist”) represents and warrants that Artist has read, understands and is voluntarily and knowingly agreeing to each of the following: - All images that are submitted and subsequently exhibited by the City of Portland and/or the Disability Rights Maine shall be Art that was created entirely by the Artist. Artist warrants that all Art submitted is an original piece, created by the Artist, with no pending or foreseen claims of copyright or other intellectual property rights infringement. - Artist hereby authorizes the use of any and all images submitted to the City of Portland and/or the Disability Rights in any and all forms of media including without limitation print advertisements, television advertisements and Internet displays. - Artist agrees to indemnify, release, forever discharge and hold harmless, the City of Portland and Disability Rights Maine, all sponsoring organizations, and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents and volunteers from any responsibility, personal liability, claims, loss or damage of any kind, or expenses, including attorney’s fees, arising out of or related to Artist’s application to and participation in the ADA 30th Anniversary Celebration. This includes but is not limited to claims for copyright infringement, special, direct, indirect incidental or consequential damages for injuries of any kind, including but not limited to loss of life or limbs, loss of personal or business income, physical damages, or any other loss whether or not foreseeable. Neither Artist, nor anyone acting on the Artist’s behalf will bring or maintain any suit in any court to assert a claim against the City of Portland or Disability Rights Maine, its directors, officers, agents, employees or other person, for any claim that Artist might have arising out of Artists application to or participation in ADA 30th Anniversary Celebration.
