We are all working in a time where diminished budgets and increasing demands push us to find alternate solutions for resources. What if changing how we frame our parks and recreation systems' needs and requirements allows us to reach more of our community members and have a greater impact overall?

This session will provide a look into how Parks and Recreation departments can re-frame their approach to design and programming when focus is tuned to accessibility. Shifting focus unlocks additional opportunities for asset management, support, and funding. We’ll discuss the various regulatory obligations, the importance of community connection as well as the numerous opportunities for alternative funding.

Completing an ADA Transition Plan can also lead to various benefits that extend beyond the traditional Title II requirements. The plan can be extended as an asset management tool to better manage the park system and assist in capital improvement project planning. The self-evaluation of programs, services, and activities can lead to an inventory of all programming and facilitate expanded discussion of existing programs or act as an advocacy tool for more dynamic and inclusive programming.
