The Illinois Disability and Health Program, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, works to promote and maximize health, prevent chronic disease, improve emergency preparedness, and increase quality of life among people with disabilities. One focus of the program is to increase access to health care, especially preventive health care screenings such as mammography. To address this need, the program developed this training Webinar for Mammography Technologists. This Webinar will provide information including:

  • an overview of disability in Illinois;
  • disability awareness to assist in understanding the needs and barriers of women with disabilities in accessing mammography services;
  • ADA accessibility requirements and where to get technical assistance to improve accessibility;
  • the importance of proper positioning;
  • safe transfers and safety equipment to assist with patient transfers, balance, etc.;
  • a call to action including a personal story from a breast cancer survivor with a disability reiterating why accessible mammography is so important.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this Webinar, participants will be able to:

  • List two barriers to mammography among women with disabilities.
  • Understand the importance of proper positioning and identify safety equipment to assist with transfers and balance.
