Region 1: Improving ADA Compliance in Cities and Towns

The New England Region is conducting a two-part study aimed at improving compliance to ADA in cities and towns across the six states.  In the first part of the project, we are using survey data from the Census Bureau and other sources to provide descriptive statistics about aging and disability for the region collectively, individual states, and sub-state geographies across New England. The results of this part are intended to help inform and educate local officials about the state of disability in their jurisdictions. It will also provide a basis for the second part of the project: gathering information about ADA compliance using a survey of cities and towns. After surveying, we will use base-line information to help design an intervention to assist cities and towns in matching their responsibilities under ADA with the needs of their residents. Afterward, we will study changes in compliance to determine the efficacy of the intervention.
