The ADAAA and it’s effect on Section 503 of the 73 Rehabilitation Act

The session will provide an overview of the 2008 ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) outlining the expanded definition of disability and an overview of Section 503 of the 73 Rehab Act that governs the hiring of people with disabilities by businesses with federal contracts. The discussion on the ADAAA will address reasons for the ADAAA, definition of disability and its expanded interpretation, non-obvious disabilities and reasonable accommodations. The Section 503 segment will address its tie with the ADAAA, 7% utilization goal, invitation to self-disclose, data collection analysis, equal opportunity clause, records access. Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) will also be addressed as many businesses that have Section 503 obligations also have obligations to VEVRAA as well.
