Description:

A Celebration of the 27th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities (ADA), hosted by the Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living (CBIL) at the Alamo Drafthouse in Corpus Christi, Texas will feature an interactive movie party with the 1994 film Forrest Gump. Set in the old South, the film depicts the life of a young man with a developmental disability and his trials and triumphs of living the life he chose to live. The event theme ...to boldly go ... is based upon the title of the play "To Boldly Go Where Others Have Gone Before." Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living (CBCIL) invites the community to join the Celebration and recognize the accomplishments for people with disabilities under the ADA. Suggested donation is $20 which includes movie ticket, popcorn, drink and Lieutenant Dan approved ice cream! The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees the civil rights of people with disabilities to have the same opportunities as everyone else. Enacted in 1990, the ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.
